High speed, high quality hotel refurbishment delivered right on time.
We were engaged to refurbish the 3.5 star ibis Hamilton Tainui hotel as it prepared to reopen after a stint as a managed isolation facility.
Our scope in the 126 bedrooms included stripping back the rooms to the wall linings, relocating electrical services, installing new joinery and bathroom vanities, refurbishing and redecorating. In the extensive public areas, we replaced the joinery and floor coverings, refurbished the bathrooms and redecorated. We also partially enclosed a large balcony area, enabling it to be used year-round.
With the hotel fully booked for National Fieldays, we were working towards an immovable completion date. We hit the ground running, starting on site just days after we were awarded the contract. We held pre-start meetings each morning with all the trades on site to collectively plan and coordinate the day’s work, ensuring that the project ran smoothly. This unified approach extended to the designers and the hotel management company as we worked collaboratively to deliver the client’s vision for the hotel.
Despite the tight programme, we were careful to recover hundreds of bathroom fixtures, light switches, power points, light shades and LED bulbs so they could be reused by local not for profit organisations, including Habitat for Humanity. We also recycled the packaging and construction waste where possible, making it a very low waste build.
Thanks to Jessica Koretz for the amazing images.
